In recent years, the scouring pad industry has exhibited new development trends across technology, product design, environmental protection, and market demand. These trends are primarily characterized by an accelerated process of industry standardization, a shift toward high-end and precision-oriented products, heightened attention to environmental and health issues, as well as intensified brand competition and deeper market segmentation.

Industry Standardization and Naming Conventions

Domestic manufacturers have begun taking the lead in formulating industry standards, thereby driving the standardization of product nomenclature and manufacturing processes. In 2024, Jiayan New Materials spearheaded the drafting of relevant technical standards; subsequently, the National Technical Committee on Standardization for Abrasives and Grinding Tools officially designated these products as "Coated Abrasive Non-woven Cloth." This move put an end to the previous confusion caused by the indiscriminate use of various informal names-such as "industrial scouring pads," "nylon abrasive cloth," and "kitchen scrubbers"-to describe the same products.

Product Innovation and High-End Applications

The application scope of scouring pads is expanding beyond traditional metal and woodworking sanding and cleaning tasks, moving into the realm of precision manufacturing-a sector characterized by higher technological added value. In the surface treatment of semiconductor packaging, high-hardness electronic components, and high-end circuit boards, roller-brush-style scouring pads densely coated with diamond abrasives are now being employed for cleaning and polishing operations. Within the automotive manufacturing sector, ultra-soft and ultra-thin non-woven abrasive cloths are utilized during the blending process for automotive topcoats. The product portfolio continues to diversify, now encompassing six major series: metalworking, woodworking, 3C electronics, automotive, roller brushes, and base cloths. Furthermore, the range of abrasive materials utilized has expanded to include various substances such as diamond, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, and ceramic corundum.

Heightened Focus on Environmental Protection and Health

As awareness regarding microplastic pollution and chemical residues deepens, the market is imposing increasingly stringent requirements on the environmental friendliness and safety of scouring pads. Research indicates that synthetic sponge scouring pads release substantial quantities of microplastic fibers during use and may pose potential risks associated with excessive formaldehyde levels. Consequently, the market has begun to favor natural, biodegradable, and eco-friendly alternatives-such as natural wood pulp sponges, bamboo fiber cloths, and loofahs. When making purchasing decisions, consumers are also paying closer attention to product safety testing reports, specifically scrutinizing indicators such as formaldehyde content, heavy metal levels, and antimicrobial properties.
